Hollywood actress Hedy Lamarr was born ahead of her time 102 years ago, on 9 November 1914 in Austria. She was the leading lady in 1940s films including Samson and Delilah and Comrade X opposite screen legends such as Clark Gable (pictured with Hedy).

Yet it was as the co-inventor of technology we now use everyday that was her most important starring role.
