We had a quick chat with Olympic Gold-medallist and Director of Will It Make The Boat Go Faster Ltd Ben Hunt-Davis about the importance of crazy goals. Here’s what he had to say:
“One of the things we talk about at Will It Make The Boat Go Faster is the importance of crazy goals. Most organisations – big and small – have got goals; they’ve got a clear direction they are headed in. They know what they want to achieve from month to month and year to year.
However, most of the time these goals are SMART – specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. And these are very important, valuable things for organisations to have. However, they aren’t always aspirational.
I think having an aspirational, crazy goal that sits above your SMART goals is really important. Imagine that feeling when you have achieved that extremely difficult thing – it really means something huge when you achieve it. Having a crazy goal and having concrete SMART goals that feed into it is critical for providing the right direction and inspiration for people within businesses.”
