This week – O2 give customers a new way to self-serve; how video sharing has evolved; and, will robots take over the world?

#1: #TweetServe
Ground breaking stuff from O2 as they take Twitter based customer service to the next level. After you’ve obtained your verification code you can Tweet @O2 with various account enquiries using # tags, getting the result as a direct message. So if you tweet #minutes they let you know the amount of free minutes currently left on your account. Interestingly, O2’s press release also says that they are receiving 1m less calls per month than they were two years ago, with digital contact filling the gap.

#2: The viral spiral
Unruly Media has released a nice way to look at the most shared videos since 2006. From Zazoo condoms in 2006 (92k shares) to Dove “Real Beauty Sketches” in 2013 (4.3m shares), the media has grown massively over this time. Whilst the space is now getting a little cluttered there’s still a great opportunity for brands with something to say that is either entertaining, useful or emotional. 

#3: Robots and drones
Wal-Mart is taking the interesting route of using robots to pick and sort products for distribution. Staff are still involved in some processes but if you combine this with Amazon’s drone delivery then we could start to see physical products delivered without any human intervention.
