The Hiscox Business Club launches today and is open to entrepreneurs and business owners with up to four employees, operating in any field from accountancy to web design, based in and around the York area.

Members of the business club will have access to desk space, meeting rooms with video-conferencing and projection facilities, wi-fi and printers, bike store and use of the Hiscox Art Café. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with Hiscox, network at exclusive Hiscox Business Club events and attend a range of other invite-only events in the city such as York St John University’s Business Masterclasses.

Alan Millard, Chief Operating Officer at Hiscox UK, explained: “SMEs are an important part of our business and Hiscox Business Club enables us to practically support just some of this city’s inspiring entrepreneurs.  We look forward to experiencing the buzz they will inevitably bring to our fantastic new office.”

Knowledge-sharing and collaboration

As well as enabling local SMEs to work from an iconic new city centre space, the goal of the business club is to foster an atmosphere of knowledge-sharing, collaboration  and networking. This will be facilitated by partners including Make It York, York St John University and York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership – potentially later extending to others including the University of York.

Members will benefit from advice sessions and access to exclusive business events in the city by Hiscox and partners including York St John Business School Masterclasses, as well as marketing and PR opportunities with Hiscox.

Not based in York?

We’ll be following the stories of those who join the club here on Hiscox Informed, as well as sharing ideas and insights from the businesses involved and events held, so there’ll be plenty of knowledge-sharing to stay tuned for even if you’re not based in York.

The launch of the Hiscox Business Club coincides with the opening of our new landmark office in York city centre – a striking addition to the Hungate area of the city, representing a £19 million investment and employing 230 people so far.

“Our York office has been a long time in the making and the finished product has exceeded all our expectations.  It is an architecturally beautiful yet practical building and, we hope, a fantastic addition to the city,” Alan Millard added.

The Hiscox Building in York is a multi-function office, housing everything from underwriting, claims, customer services, IT, HR and other operational roles as well as our Customer Experience Centre for the North.  In time it will be our biggest office in the UK outside London and employ up to 500 people.
