Even though you endeavour to provide the best care possible for your clients, it’s important to make sure you’re also looked after and protected should anything go wrong. We understand that your work brings its risks, with clients putting their safety in your hands on a daily basis. Although you undoubtedly strive to work one hundred per cent error free, a small mistake can cause a big problem. So it pays to have the peace of mind that a tailored and comprehensive insurance package can bring.

Hiscox treatment and professional liability insurance for complementary and beauty therapists is designed to cover therapists across a wide range of activities, including:

  • aromatherapy
  • homeopathy
  • beauty treatments – including waxing, facials and lash tinting
  • massage, including sports massage
  • counselling.

Choose the products that are right for your business and create one single comprehensive insurance package that protects you against malpractice, liability and financial loss.

Is there a difference between beauty therapist insurance and complementary therapy insurance?

Hiscox offers the same insurance products for both beauty and complementary therapists, with the only difference lying in the activities you undertake. So insurance for complementary therapists would cover things such as aromatherapy, hypnotherapy and reflexology. And insurance for beauty therapists would include cover for things like body scrubs, manicures and hairdressing.

Treatment and professional liability insurance

Because of the hands-on nature of your business, there is always the risk that a client could claim they have suffered an injury or illness as a result of your actions or advice. That’s why we have developed treatment and professional liability insurance that protects against the cost of settling or defending a claim that there is a problem with your work, including malpractice.

We offer protection against a wide range of risks, including: bodily injury, mental injury, disease or death arising from business activities or as a result of a good Samaritan act where you administer treatment at the scene of a medical incident are all covered.

Our treatment and professional liability insurance policy is specially designed to cover a range of business activities, including complementary and beauty therapy. The below scenarios offer examples of when you may need this kind of insurance.

  • A client claims to have been burnt by hot stones that have not been kept at the correct temperature
  • A client claims to have slipped a disc during a massage
  • A client claims that they have suffered an allergic reaction to one of your products

Public liability insurance

Hiscox public liability insurance is designed to protect your business against the cost of settling or defending a claim from a member of the public or a client that your business has caused them property damage or bodily injury.

It’s important to note that public liability insurance for beauty therapists doesn’t cover malpractice, so you won’t be protected for a mistake you make in the delivery of a treatment, for example using the wrong product or technique on a client. That kind of incident would be covered by professional liability insurance (see above). However, our public liability insurance for beauty therapists does cover claims made by members of the public (including clients) for injury or property damage that has been caused by the therapist’s business. For example, if a client were to slip and fall in your treatment room, or one of your therapists were to knock over and break an expensive ornament when visiting a client in their home, you’d be protected.
