Professional beauty insurance: Employers’ liability cover

When you’re running a business, clients and members of the public aren’t the only concern – employees need to be fully protected from risk too. Employers’ liability insurance is a legal requirement, even if you are only using an apprentice for a short period of time. Employers who haven't got this cover in place could find themselves facing fines, so don't put if off.

If an employee experiences an injury or illness because of something that happens at work, they are entitled to take legal action against you. Employer’s liability insurance protects you against the costs of defending or settling these legal claims in court.

What claims does this kind of beauty liability insurance help with?

  • If an employee is injured at work through an accident or equipment malfunction. For example, if a hair straightener malfunctions and burns them.
  • If an employee becomes ill because of something that happens at work. For example, if they get sick due to unsanitary work conditions.

Even though you try to make your workplace as safe as possible for employees, there is always the possibility that something unforeseen may happen. In these instances, an employee could seek compensation – and if the incident exposes a breach of regulations, you could be prosecuted.

Professional beauty insurance: Public Liability cover

If a client or member of the public were to claim that your business caused them property damage or bodily injury, you may have to go to court. Our public liability insurance would protect your business against the cost of settling or defending such a claim.

What does this kind of beauty business insurance help with?

Our public liability insurance covers you for claims made by members of the public (including clients) for injury or property damage caused by your business. For example:

  • If a client or member of the public were to sustain a personal injury on your premises. For example, if they were to slip and fall in your premises.
  • If a client’s property were to be damaged by your business. For example, if one of your therapists were to knock over and break an expensive ornament while visiting a client in their home, you’d be protected.

What doesn’t it help with?

It’s important to note that this kind of hair & beauty industry insurance doesn’t cover malpractice. That means you won’t be protected for a mistake you make in the delivery of a treatment, like using the wrong product or technique on a client. That kind of incident would be covered by professional treatment insurance (see above).
