The Aesthetica Art Prize is a global competition supporting emerging contemporary artists. Hiscox is supporting the Prize by contributing to the prize fund on offer to the artists submitting pieces of work.

In addition to recognising excellence in the global contemporary art world Aesthetica is a small business based in York, close to Hiscox new offices.

The relationship is a three year deal seeing support in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The entries received in 2014 were short-listed by the end of the year and judged in early 2015. Whitney Hintz, curator of the Hiscox Collection was among the esteemed panel of judges.

The winner was announced at the opening of an exhibition at York St Mary’s Gallery in March. The prize was presented to the winner, John Keane for his submission ‘Fear’. Keane received a cheque for £5,000 while the student prize of £1,000 went to Suzanne Moody for her entries ‘Tokyo Summit’ and ‘Come Away’.

In addition to her role as judge, Whitney Hintz also wrote an essay which appears in the guide to the prize and was one of the experts called upon to give a talk as part of a series of lunchtime events which took place to support the 2015 exhibition.
