How much is employers' liability insurance?

How much your employers’ liability insurance costs will depend largely on the number of employees that you have. The nature of your business is also an important factor in calculating a quote — if there are more risks involved, such as working in a dangerous environment or with hazardous materials, it’s likely that you will pay a higher premium.

It is a legal requirement in Great Britain for all businesses with at least one employee to hold cover of at least £5 million in employers’ liability insurance. If you are found not to hold the required cover, you can be fined up to £2,500 a day until you open a policy. You are also legally required to have your insurance certificate somewhere all your employees can see it (this could be digitally or printed), and failure to do so can also incur a fine of £1,000.

Hiscox employers’ liability cover starts at £4.67/month (based on 10% of our customers who purchased employers' liability cover in 2019), when bought in conjunction with public liability cover. The quickest and easiest way to find out how much a policy for your business will cost is to get a free online quote.
