For our customers with a Hiscox events cancellation policy, you may have had to cancel an event already due to coronavirus or be concerned that you will need to in the future.

Hiscox event cancellation policies do not provide cover for any losses arising from any communicable (or ‘notifiable’) disease which leads to quarantines being imposed, restrictions in the movement of people or animals or travel advisory or warnings being issued by any national or international body or agency.

If you still believe you need to notify us of a claim, then please contact us through the usual channels.

In the meantime, we recommend that all our customers follow the latest Government guidance on COVID-19 https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus (external link).

The Association of British Insurers has published some information to help insurance customers which you might find useful – you can find answers to commonly asked questions at: https://www.abi.org.uk/products-and-issues/topics-and-issues/coronavirus-qa/ (external link).

Events Cancellation Insurance Coronavirus FAQs

I have cancellation insurance in place with you. Will I be covered if I cancel my event due to Coronavirus?
Hiscox event cancellation policies do not provide cover for any losses arising from any communicable disease which leads to quarantines being imposed, restrictions in the movement of people or animals or travel advisory or warnings being issued by any national or international body or agency.

Can I buy a Hiscox event cancellation insurance policy to cover coronavirus?
No.  The exclusion above applies to all Hiscox event cancellation policies.

Am I covered if the government closes my venue or places a ban on events due to coronavirus?
No.  The exclusion above applies to all Hiscox event cancellation policies.

Now the government has classified coronavirus as a ‘notifiable disease’, will my policy cover me?
Hiscox event cancellation policies do not provide cover for any losses arising from any communicable disease which leads to quarantines being imposed, restrictions in the movement of people or animals or travel advisory or warnings being issued by any national or international body or agency. This applies even when a communicable disease has been declared ‘notifiable.’

My policy includes cover for enforced reduced attendance.  Does this mean I am covered if a proportion of my expected attendees are unable to travel due to coronavirus travel restrictions?
No.  The exclusion referred to above applies to all covers under Hiscox event cancellation policies, including any enforced reduced attendance cover.

Will my Public Liability insurance protect me if one of my attendees brings a claim against me if they catch coronavirus at my event?
The Public Liability section of the policy is also subject to a communicable diseases exclusion, so you would not be covered by the policy in that situation.

Can you provide any advice on whether or not I should hold my event?
We are not able to provide you with specific advice on whether or not to proceed with your event. The only guidance we can give is to continue to monitor the Government advice regarding travel restrictions and bans or other restrictions on meetings or events. It’s worth contacting your travel operator, hotel or venue to check their current position if you feel your event is at risk.
