What is office insurance?

Hiscox office insurance is a combined policy. It can include different types of property cover. Together, these separate products can protect your office from a range of threats.

Office insurance can bring together:

  • Business contents insurance
  • Commercial property (buildings) insurance
  • Portable equipment insurance
  • Equipment breakdown.

Need guidance on how these products fit together? Contact our customer service team for more information.

You need to have business contents cover to add commercial buildings insurance.

These help you stay protected from:

  • Damage to the office itself (if cover for buildings is purchased)
  • Loss, damage or theft of equipment and furniture inside.

It’s also possible to add portable equipment cover or tool insurance at any time. These are both types of 'property away and in transit insurance', so you would only need one or the other. They can protect your kit while it’s away from the office.

Travel frequently? There’s also the option to buy ‘property away and in transit insurance’ as a standalone cover.

You can also add equipment breakdown insurance once you have contents and/or portable equipment cover in place. This add-on is for the electrical or mechanical breakdown of items in your office (wear and tear is not covered). For example, if your server goes down due to an electrical fault.

Together, these office insurance products can help protect your business.

Tailored office insurance coverage can help if there’s a:

  • Break-in
  • Fire.

Your business’ policy can step in to pay for:

  • Equipment repairs
  • Replacements
  • Rebuilding work
  • Damage costs.

The risks can be similar for both home offices and commercial premises. Office insurance from Hiscox can provide cover for home offices. Tell us you work from home when building your quote.

Your standard home insurance policy may not cover what you need. Your business kit or operations may be unprotected. Check your cover to understand what’s included.

As soon as you have a physical workspace, office insurance can be a key consideration. With Hiscox, you can get a combined quote for both your building and contents.

Do I need insurance if I work in a co-working office space?

When you operate from a co-working space, the building’s owner may insure the premises. Say, if there’s a need to replace key equipment.

Combined office insurance can help many types of businesses. Maybe you run a start-up, are self-employed or are a sole trader

Depending on what you do, you may want business insurance for other risks too. For example, with personal accidents or public liabilities
