London, UK (07 December) – Hiscox, the specialist insurer, has responded to the continuing popularity for gap year travel with the launch of its new Gap Travel policy. Often visiting more remote and exotic destinations, gap travellers need a different kind of protection from standard holiday travel insurance. The new Hiscox policy, which is available to cover for up to 365 days, has been specifically designed to address more relevant potential risks including travel disruption, natural catastrophe evacuation and even political unrest.
Commenting on the launch of the Gap Travel policy, Hiscox insurance expert, Colin Wallace said: “At Hiscox we constantly look to innovate and offer useful, market leading insurance cover to our customers. Gap years have always been popular, traditionally with students taking time out before or after university, but increasingly with older travellers. We wanted to develop a tailored policy specifically aimed at giving our customers peace of mind, either for themselves or their children, so they can concentrate on enjoying the gap year experience.”
The explorer and adventure enthusiast is catered for with extended cover available for more extreme activities including adventure sports. Working and studying abroad is also considered and standard cover includes loss of specialist portable equipment and tuition fees in the case of cancelation or curtailment*. A stand alone policy, Hiscox Gap Travel insurance can be purchased directly from Hiscox.co.uk by both new and existing Hiscox customers, and is available for individuals, couples or family groups.
Hiscox’s Gap Travel policy holders are also entitled to a 10% reduction on the cost of a one day Objective Gap Year Safety course (available from objectivegapsafety.com). On the course travellers are given advice, alerted to warning signs and appropriate responses to any potentially dangerous and tricky situations they may face while travelling on their gap year.
