Hiscox home insurance provides cover for damage due to earthquake, subsidence, heave and landslip and our policies do not exclude damage related to fracking. On the same basis we do not decline cover for properties in areas of fracking.
What is Fracking?
Fracking is short for Hydraulic Fracturing. This is a process which involves drilling deep down into shale rocks and pumping in large amounts of water in order to release shale gas. In a world where energy supplies are more difficult to find and more expensive to extract this new way of extracting natural gas is seen by many as a viable alternative to traditional methods of gas extraction. In the US and Canada hydraulic fracturing has been used for a number of years.
