Liability insurance cover information
Further information on what your policy covers.

Hiscox Public Liability and Employers’ Liability Insurance cover provides cover for compensation you have to pay a member of the public or an employee following accidental injury, or compensation that you have to pay a member of the public for damage to their property.
Our public liability insurance cover protects you against risks such as: | Risk | Example | | Injury to the public | A client trips over a computer cable whilst attending a meeting at your office and is injured. | | Property damage | An employee knocks a cup of coffee over a client’s laptop and it has to be replaced. | | Legal costs | Fees and expenses for defending yourself against any prosecution under health and safety legislation. |
Our employers’ liability cover protects you against risks such as: | Risk | Example | | Injury | An employee claims because they are injured or ill because of work. | | Legal costs | The cost to defend yourself if the government or an administrative or regulatory body brings a criminal prosecution against you. | | Breaking the law | If you employ staff, you must have a minimum of £5m employers’ liability insurance. |
Find the right level of cover for your business When working out the right level of cover for your business, you should consider: - what are the main risks you face
- how much the most serious claim you might face could cost (not forgetting legal fees)
- whether you have any contracts which stipulate that you have to buy a certain level of cover
